Mr. Sverdrup's company donated a lot of electronic components to the club this past week. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to have custom electronics on the robots during competition. A number of you have expressed interest in learning about the electronic components. To that end, Joey and I are going to hold two sessions outside of our normal meeting schedule (to keep from taking away from build time) to teach you Autodesk Eagle, which is a software used for designing circuit boards The two PCB design sessions will be on Friday, April 20, at 6pm, and on Saturday, April 21, at 9am. There will be sessions TBD to actually assemble the boards if you choose to have them made. We will plan to be in Ms. Wytmans' computer lab. The board that we are thinking of will be simple - something will light up. The details are still unknown. The teaching will be free to learn the software and make the example design. However, if you would like to have your board manufactured and get components to assemble one copy of it, we are asking for $5 to cover the cost of the board. We will be ordering them from OshPark, which charges $5/square inch. You will get 3 copies of the board and components for 1 board. If you have your own personal computer, I recommend installing Eagle on your own computer so that you have it and can continue to play with it after these PCB design sessions. Download Eagle for free here. Please sign up for either the Friday or Saturday session at https://mchs-pcb.eventbrite.com. There are only 15 slots per day.
